Hello everyone Professor Keyblade here and today I have brought on with me is local Dark World enthusiast LaMaster.

Today we will be looking at Dark Worlds. Why you ask? Well they won the biggest YCS this year with over 4000 duelists.

Let's look at the different strengths and weaknesses in this deck.

Strengths:
- Non-Field related effects.
- Amazing draw power.
- Card Re-usability
- Good field presence.
- Hand manipulation

Weaknesses:
- Graveyard dependent
- Slightly Grapha dependent
- Decks with hand control
- Dependent on spell cards

The Engine:

The Dark World engine comprises of a combination of discarding Dark World Monsters and Drawing based on the spell's effects. One thing to understand here is that Dark World monsters can only get their effects if they are discarded by a card effect, but not as a cost.

Spells/Traps:

The following 3 cards are absolute staples in Dark World.
These cards focus on discarding and setting up your big plays.

Dealings -> Immediate Draw/Search/Destruction
Gates -> Set up Tour Guide plays
Card D -> Pluses all the way

LaMaster: Allure, Reckless, and Dragged Down are recommended and should be used at your own digression.

Dragged -> Kill strategies + Draw/Search
Allure -> Set up Tour Guide plays
Reckless -> Draw key cards faster

Monsters:

The following monsters are the staples for Dark Worlds.

Tour Guide -> Unlimited Potential for exceeding (most commonly used on Leviar)
Grapha -> Powerhouse and Instant Destruction
Broww -> Instant Draw and/or Grapha summon
Beiige -> Free summon and Grapha summon
Snoww -> Unlimited Search and/or Grapha summon

LaMaster: Some people prefer Sangan, but I find that it slows down the deck simply because you are waiting for it do be destroyed.

Tech cards:

Now let's look at the tech cards well known for Dark Worlds:

LaMaster: You also need to think about what direction you want Dark Worlds to take.

Control:

Mind Crush
Deck Devastation Virus
Gozen Match
Dark Smog
Skill Drain
Royal Decree

Swarm

Fabled Raven
Morphing Jar
Silva, Warlord of the Dark World
Goldd, Wu-Lord of the Dark World
Pot of Avarice
Call of the Haunted

Dealing with Flaws:

LaMaster: Really the major problem with Dark Worlds is how people side against them because there are many options such as Shadow Imprisoning Mirror, Macro Cosmos, Dimensional Fissure, or even cards that prevent me from discarding.

Most of the cards LaMaster refers to are spells/traps. The solution we are looking at is backrow hate.

Some suggestions:

Royal Decree
Dust Tornado
Mystical Space Typhoon (extra ones)
Eradicating Epidemic Virus

LaMaster: I am working on solutions for the Wind-up match ups as they can be an obstacle for me, even If i can get first turn advantage.

At the time of writing we could not come up with anything to prevent cards from destroying Dark World's hands that would fit.

Well we hope this helps you understand Dark Worlds even more and maybe have given you some ideas for innovations to come.

I don't run dealings or allure or reckless.

Dealings=giving your oppenent a new card in hand.
Allure is a +0 and i have to banish a dark monster in my hand.
Reckless=no more fun because you giving up the next 2 turns to draw

That is where leviar comes in,dark world dealings is also a good card, and reckless is good jump start because dark worlds always have draw power.

Dealings: Draw for you, discard for your opponent, discard for you +3

Allure: As I said, optional. Again, you have to know how and when to use it.

Reckless: You get the two cards you would have drawn the following two turns anyways - you just get them ahead of time. And if you get 2-3 of them at once..seriously, no disputing that Razz

Keyblade, something to add if you wish. I mentioned this in the chatbox, and I will include it here as I feel it is relevant:

For those that were intrigued by me mentioning that Shadow-Imprisoning mirror cannot negate the special summon part of Grapha's effect from the graveyard, here is why:

Grapha's effect that includes his special summon is a summoning procedure, therefore meaning it does not start a chain link.

On the mirror cards they say "activate", and since the summon does not start a chain link, his effect isn't being activated; it is merely the procedure for his special summon.
